EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION?

THE COMPUTER SAY THAT THE EGR HAS TO BE CHANGE.

MY CAR IS A DODGE CARAVAN 2005, 46000M. THE SHOP ASK ME 280.$ TO CHANGE IT. IS IT NESSESARY|||Many times the EGR passages and valve simply need to be cleaned rather than replacing the EGR valve itself. The error code does not necessarily mean the EGR valve is bad.|||Get a Chilton manual and do it yourself, or leave it. It probably won't hurt anything. That was a bad period for Dodge, but they are better now.|||The EGR valve lowers NOx - and it has been my experience that when it is inoperative, fuel mileage suffers significantly because the inert exhaust gases are simply replaced with an increased air/fuel mixture and the timing is actually retarded in some vehicles to minimize pinging.

Check your local auto supply outlets for a better deal - $280 sounds a little rough for an EGR replacement.|||yes u need to change it....but get it from a breakers yard.not new.|||Bobweb i agree with you.I just wanted to add something else. There are multiple codes set for egr systems. It could be the performance of the pintle sticking, loose connections, loose pins at the powertrain con trol module,or a shorting wire as well.Good luck
